ABOUT

My name is Mihir Patel and I am a third-year student at the University of Cincinnati pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. I aim to enhance my personal skills by getting involved in different environments whether that be joining an organization, gaining work experience, or working on a personal project in my free time.

During my co-op experience at Siemens PLM Software, I was able to get my hands on working with various tools such as Amazon Web Services and Docker. I was able to learn what it takes to put a machine learning architecture to production. As the Director of Technology for CEAS Tribunal, I'm able to apply my skills in web development to create a sign-in application used at the official university career fair. There, I also get to lead a committee to embark on a website redesign initiative for the organization. I get to bring my vision to life while talking about the things I love. With my experience working as a Peer Leader, it allowed me to broaden my potential by exposing me to new skills such as public speaking, building interactive presentations, and daily life management.

For fun, a favorite hobby of mine is to create stop-motion animations. It is the art of taking multiple pictures and fusing them all in succession to create one fluid animation. Similar to software design, patience and persistence are required to create a successful product, however, the end goal is always worth it.

To connect with me, you can contact me at patel3mh@mail.uc.edu.

PyQT

Fall 2017 - Spring 2018

Word Search Mania is a full-featured customizable Python 3 word search game created using the PyQt5 framework. With Word Search Mania, words are randomly pulled out of a dictionary text file which contains around 370K words. A custom word bank can also be created in the customization menu.

This project was created to demonstrate the object-oriented design skills I had aquired from my classes. It also allowed me to learn how to use a Python framework to create a GUI and how to create an interactive application.

Drupal 8

Summer 2018 - Present

This project is a website created for the Engineering Tribunal at the University of Cincinnati developed with Drupal 8 while using HTML/Sass and vanilla JavaScript to theme. It uses a Gulp file to generate CSS from Sass and cross-browser compatible code.

This project was developed to showcase events and other information regarding the Engineering Tribunal. I learned how to use a CMS, specifically Drupal 8, to create a website a normal user can use to manage it.

Engineering Tribunal Technology Director

Summer 2018 - Present

I manage and lead a redesign initiative for the official organization website. I also create web applications and various digital forms to be used at the university career fair. I became a technology director for the engineering tribunal as I wanted to get involved in my community by utilizing the skills I had. From this position, I further developed my knowledge in various programming mediums. For example, I learned how to create a script which prints out custom labels using a web form. I have also acquired leadership experience by leading the construction of the new organization website.

Engineering Ambassadors

Spring 2017 - Present

I answer all questions regarding the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences by giving college tours to interested freshmen and their parents. I joined this organization to share the experiences I had gained from being a student of the engineering college. I believe in the core values of this organization in that everyone should know how great UC is and the great things the engineering program offers. By joining this organization, I've learned how to communicate with a variety of age groups.

Career Fair Technology Volunteer

Spring 2018 - Present

At the career fair, I was tasked to sign employers in through a custom form created to print out employer name tags. I volunteered as part of the leadership role I was embarking on within the Engineering Tribunal. This volunteer position gave me the opportunity to meet new employers and develop my communication skills.
